Why Many Senators Won’t Honor Their OATH?

As individual citizens, whether, we are called (to the stand) as witnesses, or, as jurors, must swear an oath, stating we will tell the truth (in the former case), or, honestly, fairly, fulfill our duty, to objectively review the evidence (without prejudgment, and/ or, personal prejudice), under penalty of law. If we lie, under oath, we risk being charged with perjury, and receiving severe penalties and ramifications. Similarly, according to the process, used, for trying a President (or anyone else), who has been impeached by the House of Representatives, every Senator must take an Oath, both orally, as well as, in writing, proclaiming, he will fairly, objectively, and without prejudgment, listen to the evidence presented, and make a fair, informed judgment/ decision. With that in mind, this article will attempt to, briefly, consider, examine, review, and discuss, using the mnemonic approach, what this OATH should mean, and, why, it is every voter’s responsibility, to demand better, from their elected officials.

1. Options; obvious; original; opportunities; overt; offend; objectively: This process should mean, the Senators, who are acting as Jurors, in this scenario, must proceed, objectively, openly, and, be offended by anyone office – holder, who takes advantage of his personal responsibility, for his personal/ political agenda, and/ or, self – interest! They must proceed, with an open – mind, considering options, and making decisions, which consider, both, the obvious, covert, and overt! They must be original thinkers, instead of, merely, party – hacks! This should be the time, when they use every opportunity, to shine, and, clearly demonstrate, why, and, how, America, should be an example for democratic principles!

2. Attitude; attention: We need to be represented by individuals, with a positive, can – do, attitudes, who pay keen attention, to both, the information, which supports the defendant, and, is far less flattering, with an objective, fair, perspective, and the focus of a juror, in a regular trial! Politics must be secondary, to the quest for justice, in the best interests of the nation, the world, and our citizens!

3. Trustworthy; truth; temptations: Following the path, of least resistance, and the politically, expedient one, may be tempting and attractive, especially from a short – term, self – interest – based, perspective! However, we need Senators, who follow their oath, in a trustworthy manner, fully articulate the truth, and, prioritize serving the nation!

4. Honor; honorable; humane; head/ heart: Isn’t it about time, we demand, our elected officials, bring back, honor, to holding elected office, and handle these somber responsibilities, in a truly, honorable manner? If, and when, anyone dishonors their office, the humane approach, must be, to demand, every Senator use his finest emotional and logical components, in a head/ heart balance!

Wake up, America, because, the only way, we protect the basics of this nation, in a relevant, sustainable way, is to demand, elected officials, honor their duties, responsibilities, oaths of office, and duty to the nation, and its constituents! Will you demand, they honor their OATH?
